Happy weekend, my sweet subs. Here’s what’s rattling around in my absolute swamp of a brain today. Strap in / on! (Sorry and hello to my Mom’s friend Molly who recently signed up for the newsletter. Molly…thank you for paying and also, please forgive me.)
The absolute best fake content I’ve seen this year, in honor of April Fools’ day (really gotcha with my headline today, didn’t I!!!!! Full of GOOFS!!) If you haven’t seen the original, lmao, have fun.
Fondly remembering the time I got Geddy Lee’d: years ago an ex sent me a picture of myself and told me it was a “decent pic.” Obviously I’m an absolute sellout and slut for content that embarrasses me and exposes my defunct choices but, crucially, allows for the rare opportunity to Show Face. So I tweeted it, it became one of literally 4 tweets I’ve made that went viral (the others were all about birds, I’m serious) and lo and behold—I got Geddy’d.
It happens to the best of us. The hottest and most talented of us. What a Rush. But to be clear, I’ll take it. Lot of good Geddy posting out there, for those wondering.

TV Report:
I watched the new Succession and liked it. Brave take from me, as you have come to expect! There were some spectacular moments—almost entirely between Greg and Tom and likely because that reads the most like Peep Show. Now who in Succession is most like Super Hans…?
I also watched Yellowjackets and I have a bad feeling that this show is going to Pull A Lost. There are a few components for Pulling A Lost that can be briefly summarized as such:
Big expansive first season with lots of allusions to mystery, some solvable and some EERIE and MYSTICAL in nature, almost all of which will be papered over with RELIGIOUS ALLUSIONS and/or NO ANSWERS WHATSOEVER.
Too Many Threads Of Story
Flashback overwhelm. Too many flashbacks. I don’t care. What TIME is it
A lot of promises—mayhaps….too many to keep.
I love a spooky show. I love a spooky show that has fantastical elements to it, because I’m a nerd. I love a spooky show that promises intrigue, devil worship, curses, the unexplainable. But there is also a risk with promising viewers you will captivate them with the unexplainable, and that is that eventually you either have to 1) explain or 2) come up with a compelling reason not to or 3) end the show in literal/figurative purgatory.
I…worry for Yellowjackets. I want to love it. I want to be mystified and raptured by the queer cannibals. I pray it skews closer to the absolute banger that was the Leftovers, which I think was so successful because despite being a show about faith and The Unexplained, it explained QUITE a lot right up at the top—the spring was sprung, so to say. Viewers could stop looking for capital A answers about what was “happening” in the mythos of the show and instead focus on the fantastic writing, acting, character development. It was also iconically two seasons. So…I hope I am proved wrong by Yellowjackets. But let it be noted: I am worried.

Feel the same way about Yellowjackets tbh! It’s very good but I can see it pulling a Lost as well and just hope they avoid that b/c the cast is good and the story is interesting but it’s a lot!
V glad you included the Brandon Sanderson article. When i read it i wondered what you’d think of it!
