The PP Email: A Retrospective

Hello everyone,

Today I respond to an urgent request I got via DM, which read like this:

Scrolled through your entire goodboys page SEARCHING for the one post captioned “PP.”

Where she writes a brilliant email to impress whoever and hits send only to realise (hello worldly followers) she signed it as P P and can’t stop thinking of PP as she tries to fall asleep with PP haunting her? Please share I like it so much and want to share with friends ty xoxo PP!!!

I too, am haunted by PP. It is loosely based on two events: 1. the time my aunt accidentally made her Facebook status the simple and bewitching refrain, pppppppppppp. And 2, the time I was answering phones for a once-buzzy internet comedy company and my email was hacked, resulting in me sending not only porn but a porn virus to every single employee in both the Los Angeles and New York offices. You’re welcome, everyone!

Here’s the extended version of the PP experience I made for my book, which really confused everyone. “You really want…four whole pages for the PP email drawing? Does it connect to anything?”—reader yes, not only did I want the pages, I needed them. Here you go.

ID: she sleeps, surrounded by dreams of PP. it is everywhere. the last frame, her eyes are open again.

ID: the final, full page, very important to include in Shelby’s book image: the good girl is surrounded by a wash of colors and “"PP” swirls, everywhere, haunting her.

Remember: we have all been the PP email. I think that explains that. Feel free to email or DM me with similar requests, I’ve archived a bunch of cartoons on the big page either because they went into the book or I decided they were bad or I am planning on putting them in something else forthcoming, but am always happy to confirm or deny your “did this cartoon exist and can you send it to me” questions.
