It feels like what the whole liberal resistance dogma rests on, actually—you must not interrogate the public officials. They’re doing their best. They are smart and capable, not devious and self-centered. But to do so, to worship in these times especially, you must disconnect from reality altogether. Take the Sorkin pill and elevate war criminals to their pedestals.

I think you nailed it here, you really did. The whole industry of liberal wishful thinking that branded itself the Resistance[TM] complete with Star Wars logo, that understood itself as Dumbledore's Army and the cast of Hamilton, is such a bizarre and literally unreal version of our common reality. (And of course it long predates Trump; I will *always* be haunted by a photomanip of Obama's cabinet watching Bin Laden's killing live where they were dressed in Justice League costumes. This was reblogged by what purported to be a feminist comics tumblr.) I've been really worried about the "back to normal" conceptualization of Covid, but the ugliness of that pales beside the ugliness of "back to normal post-Trump".

I'm not even sure this is West Wing fanfic, only because the West Wing itself was "fanfic" of reality. (Then again, I'm probably just exhausted by yet another week of fanfic discourse.) I wonder if there's another good term for "wishful-thinking reality-erasure and smug superiority" instead of "fanfic" (which is a huge and diverse genre).

No, wait, THIS is West Wing fanfic and it is very bad: https://twitter.com/deanofdublin/status/1352495542849335299?s=20

I love how honestly negative you are, if that makes sense. Reading "I hate it, I hate it, I hate it" gave me LIFE. Also, you articulated the post-elections feels I'm having better than anything else I've read... just great work.

Side note: I am so glad you found the Spinoff! So good (usually). For lols I definitely recommend the Bashford Antiques Saga.

I'm curious about how you navigate the conflicting feelings of undeniable relief with Trump's departure with the sort of sense of uneasiness at just this liberal capitulation to OH WOW PURPLE SUCH GOOD BOY PLZ CLAP.

The fact that all our lawmakers right now are perfectly divided along party lines at 'well impeaching him is NOT UNITY' 'well NOT impeaching him is NOT UNITY' is fucking hilarious/terrifying to me.

I really want to allow the 'win' to be a 'win' (knowing full well we're very probably looking at a out of the frying pan and into the fire but at least the fire makes signals that its not _trying_ to burn us entirely) and I genuinely want to let others feel some relief from this as well, but, I guess, you give a Good Boy™ and inch and he takes a mile. Typical.
